Barteau named new director of Energy Institute

A professor recognized by the American Institute of Chemical Engineers as one of the “100 Engineers of the Modern Era” has been appointed the new director of the Energy Institute and the inaugural DTE Energy Professor of Advanced Energy Research. Mark Barteau, who currently is at the University of Delaware, will join U-M on Sept. 1. He will also serve as a professor of chemical engineering. His research into chemical reactions at the surfaces of materials laid the foundations for a new approach to driving reactions. He has received numerous honors and awards for his work, including election to the National Academy of Engineering in 2006. Along with his outstanding record in research, Barteau brings years of experience in university administration to his new roles.
