Can we engineer the climate? Should we?

Monday, May 09, 2016
4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Helmut Stern Auditorium, University of Michigan Museum of Art

Please join the Abrams Sustainability Program in welcoming Dr. Simon Nicholson of American University, to speak on "Can we engineer the climate?  Should we?"

This event will focus on artificially whitening clouds.  Injecting sulfate particles into the stratosphere.  Seeding the oceans with iron.  These and a wide range of other climate engineering or "geoengineering" schemes are gaining greater credibility and visibility as options for tackling climate change.  What, though, is to be made of such efforts?  Is climate geoengineering a new form of hucksterism?  A dangerous and distracting folly?  Or some meaningful part of the toolkit needed to generate a sustainable future?

This talk is free and open to the public!!
